Bowling

Saturday night we took Aidan bowling. We were going to hit up the newly remodeled Park Lanes but it was their Grand ReOpening so we opted for AMF on South. Less crowd.

We bowled 4 games!! Aidan kept up with us and it was a lot of fun for Adam to get some time in with him after such a long week! Aidan has asked everyday since if we can go back!

That time at night...

Every night once Aidan is in bed I get a little time alone with my hubby. Around 4 hours. Lord knows, I love that child of mine...but everyday I really look forward to that time with Adam. We put the phones and computers away. We start a movie or just lay opposite of each other on the sofa (I usually ask for a foot rub) and chat about our days and everything else going on in this bustling little lives of ours.
It's way up there in favorite parts of my day. And it always makes me realize this is what being married to your best friend is all about. Little bits of your life becoming infinitely better because they are shared with them. Even if it's boring nights on the sofa.

Our Owl

Since we have been in this house (6 yrs this June!) we have had an owl that lives in our tree. He has girlfriends that come over from time to time. They keep us up at night with all their hoo hoo hooing. It has been probably a year since he's come down close to the house but Aidan and I got home from running errands the other day and he was in our crape myrtle tree. Like 5 feet from the front door. And he's huge. I've been comparing him to the size of my lamps.
You can hardly see him if you look at these pictures. But he's there. Once I got close, he flew up to a higher tree and stared back at me for a bit. He is gorgeous.
Adams been joking he came down to introduce himself to my new owl garden flag. Riiiiight.

Our Weekend

Another weekend has come and gone around here. The weather started out beautiful but Sunday it was a bit drab!

Friday night Adam worked all night so Aidan and I went to see the new Disney documentary Chimpanzee. It was really cute. It was short enough to keep Aidan's attention and the highs and lows of the story line kept him entertained.

Saturday we headed out to our friend Mike's house in the country. Adam worked so it was just Aid and I again. We brought Scout and he had a blast running around. We rode the four wheeler down to the creek and let the boys wade around for a bit. After that, Aidan was pretty muddy so headed home for his 2nd bath of the day and met Adam. We decided to meet the gang back out on their side of town, chow down on some Mexican and enjoy some adult beverages around the bonfire while the little boys ran around.

Sunday we were up early running errands and then we split up for round two of going to the movies. My mom and I saw The Lucky One and Adam and Aidan saw The Lorax. The Lucky One was pretty good. There were times the acting was a little iffy. And I gotta be honest and tell you, the female role looked to be at least ten years older than Zac Efron.

With Adam working so much, I really look forward to our days with him. I am fully aware that I am completely selfish with his time but I'm not apologizing for it. I love me some Adam Harvey!

Anyways...that was our weekend in a nutshell. Now that I'm posting this, it's almost time for another weekend!

Here are some pics...

Field trip

Among a million other things I love about being back home with Aidan, I have really been enjoying participating in more school stuff again.

The Tuesday after Spring Break, I chaperoned a field trip to the Nature Museum on the back side of Freedom Park. Our Discovery Place membership gets us free access so my mom has taken Aidan a few times but this was my first visit. It's a lovely facility and the people that work there are great!

The kids loved the box turtle.

I decided when the snake was taken out, I would move to the far corner of the room. I didn't make a big deal of it but I am TERRIFIED of snakes. The nice young woman brought it right over to me and I did everything in my power not to jump out of my skin in front of Aidan.

This was the bearded dragon. Just my luck, right after the snake incident, he sat there while we learned about him for about five minutes and then promptly turned and made a bee line right for me. I swear I kept saying "April, be calm, be calm". I felt like such a p word.

Aidan and his best buds Ford and Dylan. I think Bobby is in there too. If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard him mention those names...I'd be shopping instead of blogging. Amiright Candace? Mom?
That is Aidan's little chub hands on the turtle so I had to include it.

When Aidan was born, we actually had a little turtle named Franklin. We gave him (her?) away to an elementary school a few years ago. I made the mistake of telling Aidan and now he won't zip it about getting HIS turtle back!

Interview With the Mr.

Do you remember the first time you ever saw me?
Yea. Mike and I had come over to see your brother and you answered the door.  You paid us no attention.  You were sitting on the computer in the kitchen wearing those pink pajamas pants that YOU STILL HAVE.  Mike tried to introduce me and you didn't even turn around.  Bobby wasn't home so we left.

The second time we met, I wasn't much friendlier.  Can you tell us about that?
The second time was in a bar.  The bar was busy. You were with your sidekick (he's referring to Candace) I had been standing at the bar for ten minutes trying to get a drink and you and Candace walked right up in front of me and ordered.  You and Candace thought you owned the place. Hahahahaha.  (We did.)

Tell me about when you realized you were in love with me?
I don't think there was a moment when I looked at you and "knew".  I had never been in love with anyone.  I dated a lot of girls and when we started dating I knew something was up because I kept wanting to come back for more.  Then before I even knew it had happened, I was in love with you.  Hook, line and sinker baby.

Favorite memory B.A. (before Aidan)?
When we used to pack up the car on Friday afternoons and head to the beach house in Folly.  I got you all to myself and we went out to good dinners, slept in and spent our afternoons on the beach.  Once in a while we would invite friends to come along. Those were great times.

Is the dog really your best friend?
(Shakes head). Why? I mean he's alright.  The whole "Mans best friend thing"  might be a stretch.  Am I allowed to say I don't like all these questions?

I think it's safe to say you are a workaholic.  Do you know why?
I like money. I like providing.  I like knowing you and Aidan can have whatever you want. I don't want to every have to tell Aidan he can't have something because of money. That was my life growing up and I want better for him.

I think I'm out of questions...
GREAT!

Well Mr. Harvey, we appreciate you and all your hard work and that you fell in love with me. Hee hee.

Sometimes it's fun to hear from someone else right?

Heaven is Here

Sooooo....here I was thinking I was so smart with our iPad and JUST TONIGHT I realized I could download Kindle on it for free! So I did and since I had been wondering when I was going to make time to get Stephanie Nielson's new book "Heaven is Here", I took it upon myself to jump on Amazon and buy it and I was thrilled two seconds later the entire thing was at my fingertips. Did I just make myself sound so blonde or what?
I, like many bloggers start a lot of sentences with "I read this blog..." and hers is one I feel like I am always telling people is a must read. I've only read the first few chapters and I maybe done by tomorrow. It's that good!!! Do yourself a favor and get a copy!

Lazy 5 Ranch

I love that my best friend Candace is always game to plan a day of fun for our boys together!
We took them to Lazy 5 Ranch early last week. Lazy 5 is in Mooresville, NC and you can drive your car or take a wagon ride on a 3.5 mile adventure through this animal sanctuary?
It mostly consists of Ostrich's, pigs and weird breeds of deer. It is also home to Luther the Rhino and a family of giraffes and quite a few camels. Aidan and Cole loves feeding the animals out of the window!

Great Wolf

Aidan is on Spring Break this week and although I've been feeling a little under the weather...thx allergies...I've been determined to make this week fun for him!
We started the week off with a trip to The Great Wolf Lodge.
I don't know if I should be writing about this so soon after it happened because inevitably the bitterness about it is going to show through!
At $409 a night for the middle of the road room, (they upgraded us for free to premium for who knows what reason but I'm not complaining) the customer service at this place was horrible. When catering to families, they should try to hire employees that like children. And as far as I could tell, that wasn't what has happened here.
The water park was at best a slightly jacked up version of our local YMCA water park.
I will say the entire property is impeccable and clean but hardly worth the money.
Adam and I were determined not to let the downfalls of the "resort" ruin out weekend with Aidan so we made the best of it and had a fantastic time watching the kid show us how he swims under water and racing down the dueling water slides with Adam.
We did what we set out to do and that was surprise the kid with a staycation totally geared towards him!
