Aidan Hates Me

UPDATE: Thanks anonymous for the comment. Holy smokes those kids were eating terribly!!! It was NEVER and will NEVER be that bad around here!

Not really but it feels like it.

I'm not a perfect mom and I make mistakes. Most of them include letting my child do whatever he wants because I am so in love with him and couldn't bare to see him upset. Well, that has come back to bite me in the you know what.

Issue #1: He doesn't want to eat meals, he wants to snack all the time. So, this is what I've come up with (and I am more than open for advice here). He only gets two snacks a day. One between breakfast and lunch and one between lunch and dinner. If he does not eat his dinner, which happens a lot because he thinks he can just ask for a snack when he gets hungry, he can't have food after that. In the past, I was feeling guilty that he might be hungry if he didn't eat. I am hoping he gets that he needs to eat his dinner when it is time so I won't feel like he is starving.

Issue #2: Toys in his bed. Every night, Aidan asks to take a toy to bed with him. I didn't really see the harm in this until recently, he asked for his fire truck to sleep with him and he played with it in bed for an hour (it makes noise that's how I know) after we put him down. Not good. Needless to say, he is VERY upset with me because now, all of his toys go in the toy box before bed every night.

Issue #3: Treats. (No, not the ones you give your dog.) As an entire family (g'pants and uncles etc) I think we got a little excited about Aidan getting to try the really good (usually unhealthy) things in life. Once in a while he would get a cup of chocolate milk or as a treat I would buy a small bag of M&M's and put 10 in a Ziploc for him to eat. We also made the mistake of rewarding him with things like ice cream. For instance when he broke his arm, we took him for ice cream but I've realized that it was making us feel better more than him. Now he wants these things all the time. I have had to stop buying chocolate syrup for chocolate milk and he has had many a break down in Harris Teeter when we pass the M&M's but I just can't have him expecting to get that junk all the time so I had to stop it all together. The ice cream thing is a little difficult especially with it being summer but in the mean time I have bought sugar free popsicle's and he is loving them! We are trying to reward him by getting really excited about things with him and telling him how great of a big boy he is turning in to.

I want him to be a healthy, happy, smart and respectful little boy and I know he doesn't understand right now why it seems I am taking all the fun stuff away but I am hoping him it will all be worth it in the end. I get frustrated with myself when he is balling his eyes out and asking for chocolate milk because I am the one who started this whole mess.

Another small part of the issue(s) is that Adam has a really hard time with discipline. He didn't have a great relationship with his dad growing up and he is under the impression that if once in a while he has to be the bad guy, he is going to ruin his chances of he and Aidan being close. He just wants to do anything and everything to make Aidan happy and to give him everything he never had. While his intentions are good, I think down the road he may find himself being taking advantage of. So we need to work on that a little bit. I keep trying to reassure him that if he lays down the law a little bit, Aidan will probably respect him more in the end and their relationship will be stronger.

We will have to see how it goes. Being a parent is such a HUGE learning experience and I really am trying my best. I'm sure there are moms out there that have it all together and do nothing wrong but that's just not me.

My mom took Aidan to the Dr for me a couple of weeks ago and our pediatrician said to my mom "You must be so proud of your daughter, she is doing a magnificent job with him". So, I must be doing something right!

Bloom Grocery

They finally opened the new Bloom grocery store near us. We have been anxiously awaiting the opening. We love Harris Teeter but it's nice to have a store just a few blocks closer to be able to run out and get something quick. I am kind of on the fence about doing all of my grocery shopping there but I do have to tell you, the fresh chocolate chip cookies in the bakery department are amazing and they have parking for parents with children. Just what I need right? Chocolate chip cookies and then a parking spot only 20 feet out of the door. Aidan is obsessed with the race car shopping carts. He specifically asked me to take a picture of him in the cart at checkout the other day for him to show his Papa (my dad).

This Actually Happened

If your name is Amanda, you don't have to read this, you've already heard the story. Adam and I had some time without Aidan this weekend so we had dinner at Sullivan's Steakhouse. We love going because Adam used to work there and they treat us really well. It would never be a good idea to go if we just wanted alone time because someone is always at our table talking. People probably think we are some kind of celebrities as many times as people stop to shake Adam's hand.

On to the story, right? So we were sitting in our booth and I say to Adam...

Me: The guy sitting at the table next to us is getting ready to propose.

Adam: No way, how could ever tell that.

Me: He looks like he's on a tangent about how much he loves her and he's holding her arm weird.

Adam: Your nuts. No way. Not here.

Ten minutes is later, we see the guy SLITHER out of his chair and get on one knee and VERY quietly ask the girl to marry him. She says yes. The manager brings them champagne, their calling family, you know the deal.

Half and hour goes and the check comes. Ten more minutes go by and they are having a blow out over who is going to pay for dinner. Apparently, her drinks were $10 and that's not acceptable so she needed to pay for them. He repeatedly said "Had I known this place was so expensive, we never would have come." Wowzers.

Adam and I could not stop staring. It was like a train wreck. Way to ruin the night buddy.

The Club

My best girlfriend Candace is well on her way to be an official member of the Mommy club. (You know the one where you talk about poop at least once a day). Today, I met with her sister to discuss our plans for her upcoming baby shower in May. I think Can is entirely too tired when she gets home from work to even worry about reading my blog but just in case, I can't reveal to many details.

I can tell you this...we are having so much fun planning it and it is going to a fabulous day to celebrate another miracle from God being welcomed in to this world in just a few short months. And blog friends, I can't wait!!!!

If my blogging slows down a bit, it's because the time I was taking to blog, is now being used to prep for the shower. We are making a ton of stuff homemade so there is lots to be done. I can't wait to be able to share with you all the big day! As a matter of fact, I need to get off of here and bust out my sewing machine. Oy vey.

Also, I have to tell you, I got to meet baby Van for the first time today and OH. MY. GOODNESS. I was soooo excited Melissa asked me if I wanted to hold him. My baby fever was in full force when I left. All he does is smile and his eyes...oh his baby blues are tooo precious. I got to feed him a bottle and I seriously daydreamed about holding a new baby of my own all afternoon. Thanks Melissa!!! He made my day!

Twins??

Aidan and my youngest brother Jordan look exactly alike. You could get their baby pictures mixed up. One of these days when I have some free time (yeah right) I will scan and upload some of Jordan's baby pictures so you can see.

But seriously...don't you agree??

Summer is just around the corner

It is already feeling like summer here so I have been stalking the Internet for good sales on must haves for the season. I have all of these items in my cart right now...
I think these sandals are sooo cute! They are from www.ninewest.com and come in a few colors.

It's been over five years now that I had my Chanel sunglasses stolen. I have been buying TJ Maxx sunglasses forever I think it's time to buy nice sunglasses again.

Ray Ban's New Aviator. You know for pool days.

David Yurman sunglasses for everything but the pool (I guess?)

I have been lusting after Michael Kors watches this year. I couldn't decide if I wanted gold or stainless steel and voila...problem solved. I will definitely be buying this. It's less than $300!!!
I mean you know, a trip to Boston SOON. That's not a lot to ask for.
A summer staple. Maxi dresses. This is Old Navy. Buying this in two colors.
Yes, I wear tankini's. I need a new top to switch it up this summer. I am liking the ruffles here.
A monogrammed Market Tote. Probably in the black. Would be super handy for all the picnics we have been going on and to lug more of Aidan's stuff from place to place.

Ooo la la. Handbags. I have had the hardest time looking for a new handbag for the summer. I am currently soooo bored with my Louis Vuitton. I thought maybe Kate Spade or Coach would have something bright but nothing caught my eye. Also, why is Longchamp putting patches on their bags this season? Yuck! So this is what I am thinking...
Michael Kors
OR
JPK (Something) Sold at Nordstrom. Two of my girlfriends have bags by this designer and I really like the fabric. This may be a little bright but it is super affordable and I love the gold on it.

Not a crazy list at all is it? What is everyone in to for the summer?

How can it only be Weds?

Is anyone else DYING for it to be the weekend already??? I have been informed that my last post was entirely too long for people to read so I'm going to keep them short and sweet from now on!

Today my mom and I were on the search for new pillows for her bed. I picked up a few things I needed for my girlfriend Candace's baby shower. The weather here is so nice minus all of the pollen. It is literally raining pollen here. It's gross and everything is yellow!!!! My dad and I went to Best Buy tonight and purchased apple Tv. I honestly have no clue what that is. I own an iPod shuffle that Adam gave me as a gift and I can barely use that.

My mom and I are taking Aidan to the Columbia Zoo on Friday. We have taken him to the Asheboro Zoo once and my parents have taken him to Columbia once before. He is so excited he talks about it every five minutes.

Sunday we are headed to the lake with our friends Mike and Chelsea and Mike's son Ryland. We rented a pontoon boat for the day. Our boat is a little hard for the boys so we thought this might be a better idea. We are really looking forward to it.

I am meeting with my BFF Candace's sister tomm to talk about her baby shower. We are hosting it together. I am so excited. We are doing a "loose" jungle theme. It will be fun to swap ideas.

I think that's about it for today! Hope everyone is enjoying their week and I hope Kathryn passed her test!!! xoxoxo
