16 and Pregnant

Tonight as I sat on the sofa waiting on Adam to get home with Aidan snoozing on the cushion beside me...I found myself tuned in to what I thought was going to be some serious trash TV. Have any of you ever seen the show "16 and Pregnant" on MTV. I guess I just automatically assumed this show would be terrible reality TV like so many other shows on MTV these days. Well I don't know what the other episodes have been like but the episode where Caitlin and Tyler choose to give there baby girl up for adoption, BLEW ME AWAY! I can't even find the words to tell you how amazed I was at how wise beyond their years these two 16 year old's were. They knew they came from unstable homes and wanted better for their child. One parent from each side was totally un supportive of the adoption and in the end the actual hand off of the baby had to be done in a parking lot because Caitlin's mother would not sign the adoption papers. How can a grown adult be more selfish than her own 16 year old daughter? Tyler and Caitlin stood strong that this was the best decision for their daughter and never wavered on their decision. I could not imagine giving up a child for adoption so their strength at their age, is crazy to me. The couple they picked for the adoption were cuter than words and more than over the moon to be new parents. Another thing I can't imagine is wanting a baby so badly and not being able to conceive. The gift these kids gave this couple is one that they will never be able to thank them enough for. I found myself balling my eyes out and being so proud of these two young adults I don't even know. They improved their lives for themselves, for this couple and most importantly for this baby girl. It was a great show and if you get a chance to catch it on MTV sit for a minute and watch.

What Would Your Child Say Wednesday

I am participating in "What Would Your Child Say Wednesday". This should be interesting #1 because I can never spell Wednesday without spellchecking (ha ha) and Aidan is just barely starting to talk. I was trying to think of a story to tell and Aidan made it much easier by doing something really cute while I was getting ready to post. If you don't have children or at least know Aidan, you may not appreciate this little thing. Well, Aidan has been sleeping in his big boy (toddler bed) bed for about 3 months now. He isn't always in the mood to go to bed so he climbs out and comes back in our room. Adam and I switch off being the weak one that let's him in to our bed. Recently, we have been talking about how we need to crack down on a new schedule so Aidan can get on track. Especially with him going to pre school in August. Tonight was our first night trying to be "strict" about the bedtime routine. We put Aidan to bed and it seemed like all was well. Adam went in to the living room to watch some TV and I came in the bedroom to work on my blogging. Probably 30 minutes went by and I heard Aidan's door open slightly and then he took off running across the hallway in to our room and climbed right up in to our bed and cuddled up right next to me. I heard Adam get up and head towards our room. He came in and Aidan looked at him with a huge smile and said "hey Dada" and waved. For us this is just the sweetest thing because his words right now are so far and few between. Adam looked at me and we both knew this "strict" thing was never going to happen.

Ughhh...

I would just like to say first that I ate ENTIRELY too much tonight and I feel terrible. On a better note, Adam worked at the restaurant early today so he was home tonight. It was WONDERFUL. We cleaned our cars out together (the things you will do to spend time with your spouse), had a sit down family meal at the dinner table (this never happens) gave Aidan a bath together, spent some time talking about the small remodel we are getting ready to do (just taking out some walls between dining/living areas) picked out new paint colors for a few rooms and made an appointment to get the sectional reupholstered for our new living room (reveal to come in a few weeks). So, it was a very productive evening. It was like the good ole days when we got to see him at night more than once a week! I seriously miss him so much these days my stomach hurts. He couldn't believe how fussy and cranky Aidan was today. I explained to him that this is kind of how he is right now and we're working on it. He replied with a huge kiss and a thank you. He apparently gets how hard my days are with a two year old in his Terrible Twos PRIME! Right now, I am blogging and he is repairing a scratch on our TV cabinet. It is so nice to just have him here. In a few minutes, I'll make him come to bed (while I am still awake) and cuddle. Ughhhh I love this man....(and the little one too).

Jon and his girlfriend...

I mean really? Have you guys seen Jon and his new girlfriend? Seriously...what a role model for his children. Apparently he doesn't seem to care that he isn't even divorced yet. He's a smoker now? Who is this person? I don't know if I will even watch his episodes he's so gross to me. Honestly, who raised this 22 yr old girl "family friend" to date this guy and ruin this family? Also, nice mug shot of her on the Internet and oh we can't forget the smoking pot pictures. Way to pick a winner there Jon. Someone you should have around your kids? I think not.

New Headboard in the Master Bedroom

After doing "Show Us Where You Live Friday's" hosted by Kelly's Korner, I have been motivated to do some projects around the house. We have made a list of marriage testing things to get done by the end of the summer. Some of which include taking down walls!! Haha. We have been wanting a headboard to go on our bed but didn't want to spend the money to buy the one that went with our Stratton Bed from Pottery Barn. Sooo, I asked Adam if he would help me in making our own headboard. To my surprise he agreed. I made my way to Hancock Fabric and bought my fabric, foam, and batting. Adam went to Lowe's and bought a piece of plywood, and a new electric staple gun. We met back at the house and 45 minutes later...we had this...

It turned out so well. We are really pleased with it. You can't tell from the picture but it is the same distance past the shelf on the other side and made out of an ivory velvet fabric (that was on sale 40% off at Hancock). It was so easy to make. We cut the plywood (one cut) stapled gunned the foam on to the board and then followed with the batting. Fabric went on after that. All for about $120. Much better than the $600 price tag on the headboard from Pottery Barn. The BEST part, we actually enjoyed doing it together. I am sure everyone knows how it is. Projects around the house can be relationship testing. I am guessing we breezed through this one because it was quick and easy. I also bought some really new fun lamps this weekend but I am going to wait to show you until I do a make over of the living room. Also, a current work in progress!

Show Us Where You Live Fridays...Entryways

This week Kelly (http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/) is hosting "Show Us Where You Live Fridays" and the area is Entryways and Foyers. As you are about to see...my foyer is in my living room...haha! The price you pay to living in a smaller, older home closer to the city. My entryway is nothing exciting so I didn't bother posting a picture. Although now that I think about it, someone may have like to see the Red Sox flag and our initials that are etched in the cement on our stoop (also where great conversations with wonderful friends happen).

This is the dresser that went with my bedroom set at my parents house. It didn't fit in our bedroom so here it is! Yes, Adam's clothes are in there. I love the picture frames with our families and friends. The frames to the right are Aidan's baby pictures. The lamp is part of a set. Before we knew Adam was going to be living with me, he bought me the lamps at a store in Mt Pleasant, SC while we are down in Charleston for a weekend at the beach house. We had just started dating and could not believe he bought them for me! If you are ever in Charleston...Celadon Home is a must see! I could spend hours in there...www.celadonathome.com .
This is the table that you see right when you walk in the front door. My girlfriend Candace was sweet enough to buy my the "H" for Harvey (obviously) when Adam and I got married. Everyone harassed me because there was "D" for Decot (maiden name) there for years. Honestly, I was sad to see it go. My maiden name was special to me. Another thing special to me is the Tiffany lamp seen here. My dad bought it for me when we were out shopping together one day. At my parents house, at one point my room was all dragonfly's and the shade of this lamp has dragonfly's on it. I am crazy about my father so anything having to do with him is VERY special to me. I am very temper mental about the lamp. Ask anybody that gets too close. HAHA. Lastly, we have a key holder that you can barely see under the light switch. Nothing fancy, it just holds our keys and my purse. Pier 1...8 bucks. It really is adorable.

I started "Show us Where You Live Fridays" a little late, and now the home tours are coming to an end. I think I will continue with mine and if anyone else is interested let me know. Maybe by next week I will have my dining room repainted and can show you that! Thanks for stopping by!

All About Aidan

Isn't he the cutest EVER? Enjoy!!!
